The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a method of religious education for children with presentations based on Scripture, Liturgy, and the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori. It is based on the conviction that God and the child are already in a relationship; the task before us is to help the child deepen that relationship. This particular method of catechesis is well suited to the needs and capacities of the young child.
An atrium is a carefully prepared environment where great truths about our faith are placed before the children to satisfy their spiritual needs in age-appropriate ways. Parents are welcome to sit in on their child’s class at any time.
CGS catechists receive a lot of formation training before leading a CGS class. Catechists find their own spiritual life grows as well as the spiritual lives of the children they serve. Volunteers willing to assist the catechists are also needed; this is a great way to be introduced to the methods of CGS.
