Do not forsake me, O LORD: The psalm closes without eloquence, only with a heartfelt cry. More than anything, David wanted the sense of God’s presence (be not far from me). It is likely that the absence of that sense was David’s greatest trial in this dark season.

The Lord wants us to seek to spend time with Him in His presence more than anything else. He promises that we will find Him: "You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13; see also Matthew 7:7–8).
Being the apple of God's eye means that we are at the very center of His focus and protection. He loves and protects us even when we are stubborn and rebellious or are caught in the worst of situations. His care for us remains constant.
This introit is divided into two parts: The first sentence expresses a certain distance, even uncertainty. The second sentence finds peace and safety and calmness.
Today we are invited to consider our journey to know God’s will and to locate our thoughts and deeds within God’s will. We must claim our faith as it is now and dedicate our lives to what it will be. God is the one who made everything, the one without whom nothing exists.
